Dear colleague,
As you may know, there have been significant cuts in federal agencies that provide support to infection prevention and control efforts.
Whether it is through the reorganization and staff reductions at the CDC, phasing out the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) programs, staffing cuts at the Department of Veteran’s Affairs, the Food and Drug Administration and the National Institutes of Health, or preemptive cuts in the name of waste, fraud, and abuse, these reductions have caused great consternation in the field.
Further, the rollback of grants that were already awarded to state and local health departments to support healthcare-associated infection (HAI) prevention efforts have caused deep concern about whether the federal government would continue its commitments to states and localities to reduce HAIs.
Now that the president’s FY 2026 budget has been released, it is time to weigh in to support important infection prevention programs. Please use this link to send a pre-written letter to your federal legislators asking for their support.
You may personalize the message; however, please do not change the dollar amounts, as Congressional offices will need those as they consider the FY 2026 appropriations. Also, some offices require shorter messages so you may need to shorten the pre-written letter. If this is necessary, we would recommend keeping the program name and dollar amounts intact.
Thank you for taking the time to support these important programs. Please share this message with your friends and colleagues. Numbers matter – Congress does not pay attention to what they don’t hear about from constituents.
Sincerely,
The APIC Government Affairs Team
