Happy Monday.

As of this writing, the Senate is about to start voting on President Trump's domestic spending agenda, which is now estimated to add a staggering $3.3 trillion to the deficit and devastate social safety net programs. Poll after poll shows that most people hate the GOP's plan, including Elon Musk, who re-upped his public wrestling match this weekend to blast the bill as "utterly insane."

So, who does the bill benefit? The rich, of course. Speaking of, I am still reeling from the nuptials of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez. As I wrote in a brief reflection on Sunday, my feed was inundated with photos from the multiday affair, which appeared just as ostentatious and tacky as you probably would expect from this flock.

P.S: This weekend's episode of Reveal explores the wild world of pronatalism, a growing movement that aims to solve the so-called population crisis by making more babies. This week, our colleagues take a look inside NatalCon, a gathering where embryo optimization meets Old Testament values. You can listen to the full episode here.

MOTHER JONES MEMBERSHIP UPDATE

THIS IS READER-SUPPORTED JOURNALISM

Hard-hitting, in-depth investigative reporting is expensive—that’s why more and more corporate news sources are slashing it from their budgets. But Mother Jones is a nonprofit. We dig it, because it’s our mission. Of course, that also means we need to directly raise the resources it takes to keep our journalism alive.

There’s only one way for that to happen, and it’s readers like you stepping up. Every dollar you chip in will help us produce the journalism that is needed at this crucial moment.
