Road awards slow, port controversies rise & long-haul ambitions: What was important in the week gone by!

Hello Readers,
Road construction companies which previously banked on securing road projects under the Bharatmala programme now need to look at undertaking diversification as the pace of road contract awards is slowing down.

According to a report by Nuvama Institutional Equities, road project awards in 2024-25 declined to about 2,170 km of projects worth ₹47,000 crore compared with 6,300 km worth ₹1.3 lakh crore in 2022-23.

The report also highlighted that the share of listed companies in road projects awards is declining, and with no increase in budgetary allocation for the road sector, executing road projects at desired margins could be challenging.
