Two of the biggest diversity and inclusion stories this year are President Donald Trump’s anti-DEI executive orders and immigration crackdowns. Both phenomena affect HR’s efforts to create a diverse workforce.
This week, D&I tackles both: My colleague Ryan Golden interviewed an attorney about what employers should do if the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission sends a letter scrutinizing their DEI initiatives, and I unpack economists’ data analysis about what Trump’s immigration enforcement means for the workforce.

Experts question whether the agency possesses the authority to issue such letters. But ignoring an agency notice or request is typically not a good tactic, an attorney told HR Dive.
