Hi, friends! Hope you all had as much fun as I did over the holiday weekend. I did a wonderful 5-mile hike at Devil's Lake in Wisconsin, that state's most popular state park, where I went hiking for the first time when I was in grade school. Towering over the lake to the east and west are heavily wooded ridges involving steep 500-foot climbs, while the trail on
the north and south drops to lake level where there are swim beaches. That means doing the loop around the lake involves 1,000 feet of climbing on glacier-carved terrain that includes some rocky scree slopes and beautiful rock formations. Altitude is no issue, of course, but the temperature was in the mid-80s and the humidity was 60%. I was soaked when I finished, but it was a fantastic day. Heads up Front Range cities will enjoy a respite from the heat of recent days this weekend. Forecast highs in the Denver-Boulder area are 87 degrees on Friday, 82 on Saturday and 92
on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service, with a chance of afternoon rain and thunderstorms on Saturday and Sunday. Rocky Mountain National Park will top out in the mid 60s Saturday and Sunday with rain and thunderstorms likely on Saturday afternoon. High temperatures in Summit County, Vail and Winter Park will be in the 60s.
