Dear readers,
Whether or not you’ve been waging war on 85 percent humidity (as New Yorkers have), I think we all could use a little joyful treat. This is why today’s letter is dedicated to the best books of 2025 (so far).
I can’t claim clairvoyance so I will make no predictions about which, if any, of these titles will end up on our annual 10 Best Books list. (Who knows what might arrive later this year?) But my colleagues and I have assembled a list of the books that have stayed with us for whatever reason. It’s a wide-ranging array, and I am confident you will find something to enjoy.
On this week’s podcast episode, I spoke with Gilbert Cruz, the editor of the Book Review, about some of the titles on our list. I’m partial to “Isola,” “The Director” and “Wild Thing,” but there’s plenty to admire.
As always, my colleagues and I would love to hear what you’re reading, whether or not it was published this year! Please feel free to drop us a line by emailing books@nytimes.com.
See you next week.
