In Red Sox circles, they call him “the Beast,” and Tuesday night in the Bronx, Garrett Crochet looked every bit the part.
Not just against the Yankees, though he was electric in rendering New York’s bats helpless across 7⅔ dominant innings. When Crochet finally relinquished the baseball, his 6-foot-6-inch frame towered over the manager who came to get it.
But if Alex Cora looked small in that moment, he sure stood tall in this Game 1 of the American League Wild Card Series, pulling all the right managerial moves in the Red Sox’ 3-1 win, outdueling (again) his New York counterpart, Aaron Boone.
