Jewish men killed in attack named

Two Jewish men killed in the attack outside Heaton Park Congregation Synagogue have been named by police as 66-year-old Melvin Cravitz and 53-year-old Martin Daulby. Greater Manchester Police said one of the victims was hit by police gunfire as they shot the attacker. Both men were local to the area. Three others injured in the attack, which occurred on the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur, remain in hospital, including another person hit by police gunfire. The attacker was shot dead by police at the scene, but three other suspects have been arrested on suspicion of commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism.

Mr Sharabi discovered only upon his release in February 2025 that his wife and daughters had been killed on the day of his abduction.

A former Israeli hostage whose British-Israeli wife and children were killed by Hamas in the 7 October attacks, says he is "very worried" the latest peace plan to end fighting between Israel and Hamas will fall through. In an interview with Lucy Manning, Eli Sharabi said the lives of the remaining 20 living hostages were being put at risk by the continued fighting.
