Voting just got more convenient for Polk County residents in time for city and school elections. The story: A new election office at 2309 Euclid Ave was designed to make voting easier, safer and more accessible. - It's easier to reach, regardless of your mode of transportation, thanks to free parking, a DART stop nearby and bike trail connections.
- More booths for in-person voting mean shorter wait times.
- A fortified drop-off box and fireproof ballot storage room will improve security and protect ballots long-term.
"The previous election office had surpassed its serviceable lifespan," said Matt McCoy, Chair of the Polk County Board. "Our growing community deserves a modern, convenient venue for those who choose to vote in person." An expert's take: "Our full-time staff will now operate from a safer, more secure environment, empowering them to better serve our community." Auditor Jamie Fitzgerald said. "It stands as a benchmark for election offices across the state." Worth a mention: The newly expanded 9,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility repurposes county-owned space at River Place. - Polk County's team did most of the renovation in-house, saving taxpayer dollars.
- The building will also open right on time for this fall's city and school elections.
What's in store: Early in-person voting starts Oct. 15 and runs through Nov. 3, with office hours Monday—Friday from 8am—4:30pm. - Election Day is Nov. 4, with polls open 7am–8pm.
- Voters can register or update their registration during the early voting period or on Election Day.
