Today’s a super special day: Public Radio Music Day.
In my role at NPR, I have the privilege of helping people discover music they may otherwise never hear. Some might say it isn’t exactly brain surgery, but I believe that the right song at the right time can change everything.
I carry a handwritten letter from a listener in my wallet. It says, “Thank you for doing what you do. You make my life richer. I will keep listening.”
Authenticity and credibility are becoming scarce and precious as algorithms and AI drive so much of today's music curation. I honestly don’t think there’s ever been a more important time to celebrate the work of NPR Music and public radio stations: actual human voices, alive with curiosity and driven by real passion.
This is where public radio shines. Not only do hosts across the country hand-pick the music you hear, they support local and emerging artists who are too often ignored by commercially-driven stations and streaming platforms.
