If you’ve been wanting to check out our full coverage, now’s the time.Greetings!It was a grim day as the hammer finally dropped at Paramount with the first round of 1,000 cuts hitting staffers across CBS News, CBS entertainment, MTV, BET and elsewhere. “We are addressing redundancies that have emerged across the organization” and “phasing out roles that are no longer aligned with our evolving priorities,” Paramount CEO David Ellison wrote in a memo to staff, obtained by TheWrap. This is expected to be followed by another round of layoffs as Paramount Skydance works to exceed its goal of finding $2 billion in merger-related cost savings. We already know CBS News has eliminated multiple streaming programs, including the digital companions to “CBS Mornings” and “CBS Evening News.” It also disbanded its race and culture unit, following a similar cut from NBC last week, a trend in backing away from DEI. It's unclear exactly how many employees were affected by Wednesday's cuts, but the reductions are not over. Unfortunately, we'll likely have to get use to this kind of news. AI is a rising factor, with Amazon on Tuesday stating it was laying off 14,000 people as it grapples with "this generation of AI." The other factor is, of course, more consolidation, with Warner Bros. Discovery up for sale. In short, the edginess the industry is feeling now isn't going away anytime soon. Roger Cheng
