Good afternoon. It’s Thursday, Nov. 13.

In today's newsletter:

  • The Anchorage Assembly recently approved another two years of a People Mover security program that contracts unarmed guards to enforce rules and respond to calls for the bus system.

  • The Anchorage School Board will vote on a $79 million bond package that could then go before Anchorage voters. If it passes, voters would pay half the cost under the revival of the state’s school bond debt reimbursement program.

  • Conservation groups and three Alaska Native tribes filed lawsuits against the Trump administration to block a deal for a gravel road through a wildlife refuge on the Alaska Peninsula.

With winter fully upon us and daylight gradually fading, there is no question that supplemental lighting is necessary to keep Alaska houseplants healthy in winter, writes columnist Jeff Lowenfels. In his latest column, Jeff notes that the market for winter grow lights has expanded, with options to fit nearly any household.

Anchorage weather

It'll be mostly cloudy today with a high around 22 degrees. The forecast calls for mostly cloudy conditions for the next few days and through the weekend. Daytime highs will range from the mid-20s to the low 30s over the next several days.
