Good afternoon. It’s Friday, Nov. 14.

In today's newsletter:

  • State officials are looking for long-term housing for the approximately 650 people who remain lodged in Anchorage, as Western Alaska villages damaged by last month's storm remain unsafe for many.

  • The Trump administration took its latest step to encourage oil and gas development in Alaska, saying it’s revoking a Biden-era rule that restricted leasing across most of the NPR-A.

  • Two Republican state senators resigned from their seats this month to focus on their respective campaigns — one for Alaska governor and the other for lieutenant governor.

There are lots of events on tap this weekend in Anchorage. From ways to have fun (comedy shows, an orchestra concert and roller derby) to ways to give back (fundraisers benefiting victims of the Western Alaska storm) there's something for everyone. Check out our full events listing here.

Anchorage weather

It's mostly cloudy today with a high near 23 degrees. Looking ahead to the weekend, we should see sunny skies on Saturday, but the forecast calls for snow starting Sunday night and lasting into the work week.
