Review the revised draft Zoning Ordinance text for Battery Energy Storage Systems
County staff is developing a Zoning Ordinance Amendment that would add new regulations for battery energy storage systems. Standards address topics like setbacks, screening, noise, and safety.
This past summer, initial draft text for the proposed Zoning Ordinance Amendment was posted online for public review and feedback. Based on input received and additional research, revised draft text is posted for review.
The revisions include changes regarding transitional screening adjacent to residential uses, fence height, the timing for the submittal of a noise study, the emergency and decommissioning plans, the financial security for decommissioning, references to applicable codes and standards, the definition of accessory BESS, and other minor edits.
Additional information about the proposed amendment can be found on the project website. For questions or comments, please contact Jacqui Kamp by email or at 703-324-1314.
