New Northgate González Market celebrates authentic Mexican heritage
The new 36,974-square-foot Northgate González Market in Lynwood, Calif., features a variety of specialized departments that reflect the retailer's Mexican heritage. Highlights include a tamalería with handmade tamales, a tortillería producing fresh and seasonal tortillas, a pastelería offering traditional baked goods, a carnicería known for its carne asada, and a carnitas station preparing meat in traditional cazos. The store also showcases murals by a local artist. Northgate González Market has also announced plans for further expansion, with two new locations slated to open in Stanton and La Mirada, Calif., in 2026.

Online grocery sales see double-digit growth in October
Online grocery sales in the US rose 10.5% year over year to $11.6 billion in October, driven by a 13% increase in monthly active users to a record 83.3 million households, according to Brick Meets Click. However, order frequency remains flat, with a decline in large metro areas offset by gains in smaller markets. The average order value for delivery and pickup fell by nearly 3%, while ship-to-home increased by 5%.

FMI supports Trump's food tariff rollbacks
President Trump has issued an executive order to significantly roll back tariffs on over a hundred food and agricultural items, including beef, coffee, fruits and spices, exempting many common grocery goods from the reciprocal tariffs imposed earlier in the year, making the reductions retroactive to Nov. 13. Leslie G. Sarasin, president and CEO of FMI -- The Food Industry Association, said the action "should help consumers, whose morning cup of coffee will hopefully become more affordable, as well as US manufacturers, which utilize many of these products in their supply chains and production lines."
