Georgia's Environmental Protection Division has proposed updates to its drinking water regulations to include two types of PFAS -- PFOA and PFOS -- mirroring recent federal guidance. SMURRF: Santa Monica Urban Runoff Recycling Facility This state-of-the-art facility treats dry weather runoff water (from excessive irrigation, spills, construction sites, pool draining, car washing, washing down of paved areas, and wet weather runoff) that used to go directly into Santa Monica Bay through storm drains, taking with it pollutants such as litter, oil and animal waste. The recycled water is made potable and is used by the city for irrigation and some public toilet systems for flush (Photo by Ted Soqui/Corbis via Getty Images)

Hawaii fishpond restoration stalls without fresh water
The He'eia Fishpond on Oahu, Hawaii, is nearing completion after 25 years of restoration, but a lack of fresh water from He'eia Stream threatens its full revival. The stream was diverted in 1940, reducing the flow needed to create the brackish water essential for fish farming.
