Come meet the 7th grade class and their families! Join us for a fun evening of food, friends, and community. Enjoy fresh pizza, refreshments, and a candy bar!
$10/person Capacity is limited, so you must RSVP and pre-pay to be added to the admissions list.
Please purchase tickets by 11/25.
This is not a drop off event. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Dining for Dollars events are an easy way to support Thoreau and local businesses! The participating business donates a portion of their proceeds to Thoreau to help fund teacher support and student activities.

The Thoreau PTA is pleased to offer a grant program to assist Thoreau staff in obtaining materials, supplies, and professional resources to enhance instruction and/or engagement with students.
Got a creative project idea that would benefit students? Need specialized equipment or technology to better serve students? Would a journal subscription or membership in a professional organization support your work with students? Please apply!

Paid AVID Tutors Needed
Attention families - looking for a flexible and part-time position at Thoreau Middle School? FCPS is hiring AVID tutors for the 2025-2026 school year.
AVID tutors work with small groups of approximately 5-7 students during the school day in an academic elective class called Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID). These groups use questioning strategies to help students develop a variety of college preparatory skills such as critical thinking and problem solving.
Tutors earn $21.13 per hour and should either be a college graduate or currently enrolled in college. If interested, please email your resume to AVID@fcps.edu.

Join the PTA
Please consider joining our Thoreau PTA. Memberships are $15 for one adult and $25 for a family membership for two adults. Anyone can be a member - teachers, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. Memberships are tax-deductible.

Volunteer to help with Events
Are you interested in volunteering with the Thoreau PTA? There are plenty of opportunities to help with staff appreciation events, social events such as Crosstown Hoops, our grade level events, and so much more. Contact acstrawn@gmail.com with interest!

Donate to Support Your Students!
We would appreciate a one-time donation of $50 per family, but are thrilled to receive any and all contributions. Donations are tax-deductible, and 100% of your contribution goes directly back to supporting our Thoreau Middle School students and staff. Your donations will help the PTA support our community throughout the 2023-2024 school year. Among other things, our Thoreau PTA:
- Organizes appreciation events for our teachers and staff regularly, such as pies at Thanksgiving and cookies before Winter Break
- Coordinates special events such as the 7th Grade Fall Social and 8th Grade End of Year Party
- Grants financial support to teachers and staff for classroom or program needs
