Dear Travel Fan, The countdown to Thanksgiving is on. For us, that means making sure you have all the help you need if you’re traveling for the holiday. That’s why we put together this compendium of all our best advice for air travel going into this busy period. (Here’s hoping you don’t need it.) Ahead of the holiday rush, Sean Duffy, the secretary of transportation, launched a campaign aimed at getting airline passengers to behave — and dress — better. In a public-service-announcement-style video, Mr. Duffy asks, “Are you dressing with respect?” And in an appearance on Fox News Business he suggested that passengers should stop wearing their pajamas to fly. Right after Thanksgiving comes Black Friday, and we’ve got an early roundup of Black Friday/Travel Tuesday deals, so you can start your vacation planning now. Cruising has become an incredibly popular way of vacationing, beloved by many for its ease and fun. However, there is a dark side and this week we look at how sexual assault claims are handled onboard and how the cruise lines often fall short when it comes to investigating these crimes. Sadly, this week we also have news of a young woman’s death on a ship and the fact that her stepbrother is under investigation. Ski season is kicking off in the next weeks and we’ve got a roundup of ski clinics that will help you improve your skills. Our 36 Hours column visits Memphis this week, and it’s written by Rick Rojas, who covers the American South for The Times. It takes us to classic stops like Beale Street and Graceland and, of course, has recommendations for the best spots to eat ribs. And our Tripped Up columnist helps out a traveler whose rental car died 17 minutes after he picked it up — and who then got stuck with a $1,367 bill. Finally, the third in our new series of Travel 101 City Guides is out, this time covering Tokyo, an incredible city that can seem ancient and futuristic at the same time. We’ve got tips on the best places to see and things to do, as well as on how to navigate Japanese cultural customs. Our previous guides have journeyed to Rome and London, if you want to catch up. Wishing you a wonderful holiday and easy travels if you’re going to be on the road,
