The US State Department is considering suspending 38 universities, including major institutions such as Harvard, Yale and Stanford, from participating in the Diplomacy Lab program due to their diversity, equity and inclusion hiring practices. The proposed suspensions, which could take effect January 1, would significantly reshape the network of academic partners by removing these schools and approving 10 new ones. While some universities have complied with federal anti-DEI demands to avoid removal, most targeted schools have not been officially notified of the potential suspensions, as the final list is still pending.

Meanwhile, universities are debating the ethical boundaries of AI's use in classrooms, with policies varying widely and only a minority of institutions having formal guidelines in place. As AI becomes a regular tool for assignments and instruction, higher education is challenged to strike a balance between innovation and maintaining educational standards.
