The good news:
Leaders echoed several demands young people have been making for months. They recognised:

• Africa’s unfair borrowing costs, and how high debt repayments are blocking development
• The need to strengthen African centres for disease control (CDC) and local manufacturing
• The central role of young people in shaping the Africa-Europe partnership

Some of our activists’ recommendations even made it into the final declaration.

But there were gaps:
No concrete progress on youth mobility; no commitments on fully funding the Global Fund, Gavi, or Africa CDC; and no guarantees that health and education budgets will be protected.

Over the next six months, the AU and EU will draft the implementation plan, where commitments either become real or disappear into the footnotes. ONE will be there at every step, pushing for the ambition young people deserve.
