2025 Ed Ricketts Memorial Award and Lecture: Searching for Lost Sharks

December 10, 2025 Webinar at 6:30 pm Pacific/ 8:30 p.m. Central

The 2025 Ricketts Award recipient Dr. David A. Ebert (Pacific Shark Research Center / Moss Landing Marine Laboratories / San Jose State University) is known as the Lost Shark Guy for spearheading a global effort to find and discover little-known and unknown sharks. Dr. Ebert will provide a lecture on how the movie “Jaws” gave birth to the modern field of shark science, conservation, and education. 

The Ed Ricketts Memorial Award was created to honor scientists who have exhibited exemplary work throughout their career and advanced knowledge, appreciation, conservation and/or protection of the marine environment. Recipients are selected by the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Research Activity Panel.

Do you want to connect with like-minded youth and become an environmental leader at your school or in your community?

The NOAA Ocean Guardian Youth Ambassador program provides a new level of engagement for youth aged 13-18 committed to ocean conservation and stewardship of our blue planet. We are looking for enthusiastic youth with new ideas and a unique perspective to learn more about America’s underwater treasures and to share their passion with others.

NOAA Marine Debris Program 2025 Art Contest Winners!

We are pleased to announce the winners of the NOAA Marine Debris Program Art Contest! We received many colorful, creative, and informative entries from around the country, and although we wish we could showcase them all, we are excited to share the winners of this year’s contest with you. The winning artwork will be featured in a 2026 calendar, which will help to remind us every day of the importance of being responsible stewards of the ocean. The Gulf Council Seeks a Fisheries Outreach Specialist

Application Deadline: Wednesday, December 31, 2025 (or until filled)

The Gulf Council is currently accepting applications to fill a Fisheries Outreach Specialist position. The Fisheries Outreach Specialist will be responsible for engaging with fishermen, stakeholders, and the broader public to communicate complex fishery management issues and promote meaningful participation in the Council process.  The Fisheries Outreach Specialist will lead the development of assigned outreach and education materials and manage various databases to ensure accuracy of commercial and recreational fishing regulations.  The Fisheries Outreach Specialist will support the Public Information Officer and work with Council staff and a wide range of state and federal professionals, academic partners, and stakeholders.

Residency Program Coordinator - TX

The goal of the Residency Program is to deliver true integration of art and science that culminates in projects that beautify campuses and public spaces.

The Residency Program Coordinator is an entry level management position and primarily responsible for assisting the Operation Director in fostering, designing, managing, maintaining, and growing Artist Boat’s Residency Programs, which include Eco-Art Residencies, Nativescapes, Summer Camps, and Public Art installations including Project SIT.  Primary duties include day-to-day operation of the programs (inclusive of assuring residency staff assignments and duties are completed; equipment, supplies, logistics and communications are sufficient for the day’s programs; and delivery of programs 66% of the time). A large focus of this position is on maintaining and fostering smooth operations of program and implementing processes for proper management and obtainment of the program resources (vehicles, equipment, supplies, and destinations).
