Dear readers,

Without further ado: Here are the 10 Best Books of 2025.

I’ll spare you the tales of bloodshed and Machiavellian tactics that transpired behind the scenes. Just trust me when I say we really threw ourselves into crafting this list — dozens of books under discussion, months of debate and even some friendships (briefly) tested.

If you’d like to hear more about the process and the picks, my colleagues and I talk about all 10 books on the latest podcast episode and in a video. And our critic A.O. Scott zeroed in on a scene from “The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny,” one of the novels, and explains what makes it magnificent.

I hope you love these books as much as we do!
