The Gift

December 4, 2025

Good evening. Tonight we’re making the case for why a great piece of jewelry is a can’t-go-wrong gift. We’re also eyeing:

I’m giving everyone jewelry this year

Samantha is one of Wirecutter’s gifts writers. There isn’t a gold chain out there she won’t adorn herself with.

Unwrapping a sparkly, shining jewel on a December morning is not something that should be reserved for romantic partners. In fact, practically the only person on my list who is not getting jewelry for the holidays this year is my beloved husband, who won’t even wear a watch without complaining of discomfort.

In my opinion, jewelry is the perfect gift. It’s personal. It’s pretty. It becomes a daily reminder of your relationship with your recipient, and, it can last forever. And, unless you want to splash out “Santa Baby”-style on diamonds and gems, it can be affordable.

Don’t tell them, but here’s what my nearest and dearest — men, women, old, and young — are getting this season. Some are coveted pieces from our ultimate gift guide to jewelry, and others are new little treasures I found while on the holiday prowl.

Oh, and if anyone’s asking, yes, baubles are on my wish list this year, too. I am a wearer of an earring stack, a wrist stack, and a necklace stack. But I’m keeping it simple this year — just this perfect delicate gold bangle, please.

What to give: My good-egg teenager?

Wirecutter summary icon

My 15-year-old daughter says she has everything she needs. (Amazing, right?) She’s a classic “first-born daughter” — responsible, hardworking, a distance runner, all-around good egg. Doesn’t need clothes, teen-ish room decor, or gadgets. I’m looking for one or two smallish, thoughtful surprises and some good stocking stuffers. — K.A.

From gifting expert Hannah Morrill:

Good egg is right! I’m wondering if she has this TikTok-famous lip balm? Or the mini size of our beauty team’s favorite makeup-removing micellar water? Both would be perfect in a stocking. I also hear that these muted sparkly freckles are all the rage for runners on race day. (Think you could get away with this tasteful sneaker charm, too?) And because even good eggs need to capture a little content — we have it from trusted sources that the Octobuddy could be just the thing.
