I used to worry about all the wrong things when building:
– Schema markup for SEO. – OG Meta images. – Google Lighthouse scores.
(real nerds know what I’m talking about)
I'd spend hours obsessing over this stuff…
But spoiler alert: none of that shit mattered.
Just fancy distractions for perfectionists.
So what does matter?
Here's what I've learned after years of doing this:
1. Becoming more confident in yourself and your ideas. Believe that what you're building matters, even when nobody else sees it yet.
2. Getting over the fear of putting yourself out there. Distribution. Attention. Fear of rejection. You gotta push through it.
3. Having the patience to build in a space for years. Not jumping around every month chasing the next shiny thing.
4. Ability to think from first principles. Being original. Understanding when to copy, when not to.
5. Persistence, routine, habits. Two hours of deep work every day. That's it.
6. Ability to figure things out yourself. Bias for action. Don't wait for someone to tell you what to do.
This isn't a comprehensive list.
But if I could go back and tell myself what really matters, it'd be this.
