Dear Travel Fan,

If you’re a train fan, we’ve got good news for you: Amtrak is getting ready to introduce a new generation of trains on many of its most-traveled routes, and we got a tour of the factory to see the new cars being built. Our reporter, Gabe Castro-Root, talks about the update on video, too.

The shutdown and then reopening of the El Paso airport was another example of the increasing uncertainty around air travel during the Trump administration. We teamed up with our colleagues on the business desk to look at what’s going on. And there is another partial government shutdown underway, with T.S.A. agents working without pay. We explain what that means for travelers. We also look at some bad behavior on board a Jet2 flight.

At the other end of the spending spectrum, luxury travel is booming. We take a look at what the ultra-rich want when they travel — and at the industry of travel advisers and concierges that has sprung up to provide it.

Our Tripped Up column helps out a traveler whose heirloom Louis Vuitton bag was damaged by the airline, which then didn’t want to pay. Our 36 Hours column stops in Seville, Spain. And we’ve got a roundup of noteworthy design festivals worth traveling for in the coming months.

When Harry Styles announced that he would be doing a 30-concert residency at Madison Square Garden starting in August, his biggest fans rushed to buy tickets and book their trips. We talked to some of them about their plans.

Wishing you safe and happy travels,
Amy Virshup
