Tiger Tales

The words tigers den with tiger stripes

Tiger's Den

Families,

It’s hard to believe February is coming to an end but our school community is filled with learning.  Our students are actively engaged in community-based instruction and literacy activities.  The classrooms are recording the pledge of allegiance for our school wide morning routine using multi-modal communication.  Next time you visit our building, please look at all the student work displayed in the main office.

As always, we appreciate your feedback and hope you have a wonderful week.

New Visitor Management System

We are excited to announce that our school is now using the new Raptor Visitor Management System (VMS). This upgrade is part of our school’s and FCPS’ ongoing commitment to enhancing school safety and streamlining the process for visitors at our school. The VMS ensures that no visitor is on the sex offender registry.

For most visitors, the user experience will be the same when you check-in at the front office.

But now there is also an app, which can make check-in’s even faster at school. Visitors who choose to download the RaptorSafe App and create a Raptor Passport can pre-verify their information before they get to school. The app will give you a QR code you can use when you check-in at school.

If you have questions or need assistance with the new system, please contact our front office. Thank you for your partnership in keeping our schools safe!

Upcoming Career and Transition Events

Planning for Life in and After High School for Students with IEPs

Families, caregivers, and educators of elementary and middle school students receiving special education services are invited to join Career and Transition Services (CTS) to learn about planning for life in and after high school.

The transition fair will take place on Wednesday, March 4, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at Luther Jackson Middle School.

Ensuring the success of our students with disabilities after high school is dependent on what is known as transition planning. Please join CTS and other support service personnel for an evening focused on planning for the future.

An exhibitor fair will include teachers and representatives from CTS high school courses, career academies, age 18-22 programs, and transition services for students with disabilities. This event also includes a presentation with a brief overview of transition services and a student/parent panel sharing firsthand experiences. Register in advance.

Parent Support Group

Join the Jill’s House/Kilmer Center Parent & Caregiver Support Group, a welcoming community for those raising children with significant disabilities. For over 10 years, this group has met monthly to connect parents to one another and a shared network of resources. Whether you are discussing topics like chronic grief and holiday stress or sharing funny stories and planning for life after graduation, these meetings offer a safe, open, and accepting space to share common concerns and triumphs. You do not need to be a Jill’s House client to participate; all are welcome! Meetings are held virtually via Microsoft Teams on Thursday evenings at 7:00 pm and last about an hour. The Kilmer Center Psychologist or Social Worker and Deonne Snare, the Jill’s House Family Support Specialist, will be present to offer guidance. Please feel free to join with your camera on or off, whatever makes you most comfortable.

2026 Meeting Dates:  Mar 12

To Attend: Email Deonne Snare at Deonne.Snare@jillshouse.org to receive the meeting link 15 minutes prior to the start of the session.
