Principals’ Corner
Yesterday during our Early Release Wednesday, our instructional staff engaged in reviewing and analyzing data related to our School Innovation and Improvement Plan in the areas of Reading and Math. Based on the data, teachers worked collaboratively to identify trends and think critically about whole school data to inform next steps. This information will be utilized to inform instructional practices and continued professional learning for staff to increase student growth in Reading and Math.
This year, we have targeted our Saratoga expectations of being Safe, Caring, and a Community. For the month of March, we are launching a school-wide competition called, Horseshoes and Hoops. From March 2 - 27, our students will continue to earn golden horseshoes for demonstrating expected behaviors throughout the building. Staff will be handing out special stickers in the month of March to students that will go towards our school-wide goal of earning 500 horseshoes. Once we earn 500 horseshoes, we will have a school-wide jersey day! Students will be providing input on the reward for when we earn 1,000, 1,500, and 2,000 stickers. Classrooms will also be setting individual goals with class based incentives. Let the Madness begin!

Showcasing Excellence: Benchmark Family Information Session
Have you ever wondered what happens during your child's literacy block? This is a wonderful opportunity to see firsthand how our students are growing as readers and writers through the Benchmark curriculum. Join us for the rescheduled snow day session on March 23 from 12:15 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. for the following:

Learn & Connect: Our Reading Specialist, Kristina Reukema, will lead a presentation explaining the "why" and "how" behind the Science of Reading and the Benchmark program in the cafeteria.

Benchmark in Action: This is the exciting part! You will have the chance to visit classrooms in small groups. Along with our Admin team and Ms. Reukema, you will have the opportunity to see snapshots of daily instruction to see authentic learning as it happens.

Q&A Session: We will wrap up the morning with a dedicated time for questions to help deepen your understanding of our literacy goals and how we support your child.
To ensure a smooth and secure morning, please remember to bring your ID. All visitors are required to check in at the front office upon arrival. Please note that only individuals who have checked in through the office will be permitted to participate in the classroom visits.
Hydroponics Garden
We are excited to introduce a new, hands-on learning program at our school: Fork Farms!
This indoor, vertical hydroponic "Flex Farm" allows students to grow fresh, sustainable produce right in the STEM classroom year-round.
This program will:
- Directly apply STEM principles to grow food, learning about sustainability and science.
- Allow students to grow leafy greens (such as Romaine Lettuce) will be featured in our school cafeteria.
- Students will soon take ownership of the growing process, from seeding to harvest.
We are thrilled about this eco-friendly experience at Saratoga! Check out some of the pictures below!
   Saratoga students are at the beginning stages of learning to grow Romaine Lettuce! By March 16th our cafeteria will be serving the Romaine Lettuce that was grown in the STEM room!!
New Visitor Management SystemWe are excited to announce that our school is now using the new Raptor Visitor Management System (VMS). This upgrade is part of our school’s and FCPS’ ongoing commitment to enhancing school safety and streamlining the process for visitors at our school. The VMS ensures that no visitor is on the sex offender registry.
For most visitors, the user experience will be the same when you check in at the front office.
But now there is also an app, which can make check-ins even faster at school. Visitors who choose to download the RaptorSafe App and create a Raptor Passport can pre-verify their information before they get to school. The app will give you a QR code you can use when you check in at school.

RINCÓN DE LOS DIRECTORES
Ayer, durante nuestro Miércoles de Salida Temprana, nuestro personal docente revisó y analizó datos relacionados con nuestro Plan de Innovación y Mejora Escolar en las áreas de Lectura y Matemáticas. Con base en estos datos, los docentes trabajaron en colaboración para identificar tendencias y analizar críticamente los datos de toda la escuela para orientar los próximos pasos. Esta información se utilizará para fundamentar las prácticas educativas y la formación profesional continua del personal, con el fin de impulsar el crecimiento estudiantil en Lectura y Matemáticas.
Este año, nos hemos centrado en las expectativas de Saratoga de ser una escuela segura, solidaria y comunitaria. Durante marzo, lanzamos una competencia escolar llamada "Herraduras y Aros". Del 2 al 27 de marzo, nuestros estudiantes seguirán ganando herraduras doradas por demostrar el comportamiento esperado en todo el edificio. El personal entregará calcomanías especiales a los estudiantes durante marzo, las cuales contribuirán a nuestra meta escolar de ganar 500 herraduras. Una vez que consigamos 500 herraduras, ¡celebraremos un día de camisetas para toda la escuela! Los estudiantes darán su opinión sobre la recompensa por ganar 1000, 1500 y 2000 pegatinas. Las aulas también establecerán metas individuales con incentivos. ¡Que empiece la locura!

Mostrando la excelencia: Sesión informativa para familias sobre el programa Benchmark
¿Alguna vez se ha preguntado qué sucede durante el bloque de lectura y escritura de su hijo/a? Esta es una excelente oportunidad para ver de primera mano cómo nuestros estudiantes están progresando como lectores y escritores a través del programa Benchmark. Únase a nosotros para la sesión reprogramada del día de nieve el 23 de marzo de 12:15 p. m. a 1:00 p. m. para lo siguiente:
Aprenda y conéctese: Nuestra especialista en lectura, Kristina Reukema, presentará una explicación sobre el fundamento y la metodología de la Ciencia de la Lectura y el programa Benchmark en la cafetería.
Benchmark en acción: ¡Esta es la parte más interesante! Tendrán la oportunidad de visitar las aulas en pequeños grupos. Junto con nuestro equipo administrativo y la Sra. Reukema, podrán observar ejemplos de la instrucción diaria y presenciar el aprendizaje auténtico en acción.
Sesión de preguntas y respuestas: Concluiremos la mañana con un espacio dedicado a preguntas para profundizar su comprensión de nuestros objetivos de alfabetización y cómo apoyamos a su hijo/a.
Para garantizar una mañana organizada y segura, recuerde traer su identificación. Todos los visitantes deben registrarse en la oficina principal al llegar. Tenga en cuenta que solo las personas que se hayan registrado en la oficina podrán participar en las visitas a las aulas.
Huerto Hidropónico
Nos complace presentar un nuevo programa de aprendizaje práctico en nuestra escuela: ¡Granjas de Horquilla!
Esta "Granja Flexible" hidropónica vertical de interior permite a los estudiantes cultivar productos frescos y sostenibles en el aula STEM durante todo el año.
Este programa:
Aplicará directamente los principios STEM para cultivar alimentos, aprendiendo sobre sostenibilidad y ciencia.
Permitirá a los estudiantes cultivar verduras de hoja verde (como lechuga romana) que se exhibirán en la cafetería de nuestra escuela.
Los estudiantes pronto se responsabilizarán del proceso de cultivo, desde la siembra hasta la cosecha.

Nuevo Sistema de Manejo de Visitantes a las EscuelasNos entusiasma anunciar que nuestras escuelas están ahora usando el nuevo sistema “Raptor Visitor Management System”, VMS. Esta actualización forma parte del compromiso que nuestras escuelas y FCPS mantienen con la mejora de la seguridad escolar y con la simplificación del proceso que deben seguir los visitantes a las escuelas. El sistema VMS garantiza que ningún visitante esté en el registro de delincuentes sexuales.
Para la mayoría de los visitantes, la experiencia como usuarios será la misma que ahora tienen cuando se anotan en la oficina principal de cualquier escuela.
Pero ahora contamos con una aplicación que puede hacer mucho más rápido el proceso de anotarse en la escuela. Aquellos visitantes que descarguen la aplicación RaptorSafe App y creen un “Pasaporte Raptor”, pueden verificar su información con antelación, antes de llegar a la escuela. Esta aplicación le dará un código QR que puede usar cuando se anote en la entrada de la escuela.
