Poking Holes in the Darkness |

"When I look at a candle and I see the light, I'm instantly connected to who God is. It's like another example of poking holes in the darkness that I see—and filling those holes with light." |

So said a dear friend to says Lisa Cuss. On a recent episode of Being Human, Cuss says she found herself thinking about that statement for days. She pondered what the darkness is around her and others, what it looks like to poke holes in it, and what it means for light to filter through it. God, Cuss tells listeners, "is continually active in what feels dark."
This reminder calls to mind the words of John 1:5, when Scripture tells us that "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." While the world around us may make us feel like it's hard to see, the light of Christ has not dimmed. When we find ourselves squinting for the truth, may we remember that God is ever poking holes in the darkness, illuminating our path. |
