The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors proclaimed February 2026 Black History Month.
At the Supervisors’ Feb. 3, 2026, meeting, Franconia Supervisor Rodney Lusk read the proclamation on behalf of the Board and reflected on lessons from his grandparents that he carries forth as the first Black male County Supervisor. Leadership Fairfax CEO Kia Cole-Hines, accepted the proclamation for the Inclusive Leader Institute, the County’s only forward-facing program designed to promote One Fairfax beyond county government.
The 2026 Black History Month theme is “A Century of Black History Commemorations: Promote, Protect, Preserve.” This is a call to action to preserve the history and memory of Black life, the proclamation states.
Fairfax County leaders and the community gathered at the Fairfax County Government Center on Feb. 20, 2026, to celebrate and honor Black History Month at the "Unite, Uplift & Celebrate!" event featuring entertainment, speakers and more.
