Principal's Message
Spartans,
While the groundhog’s recent predictions may have us guessing about the arrival of spring, there is no doubt we continue to have great things happening here at West Springfield HS. This past week has been nothing short of historic for our Spartans. As our Spring sports officially get underway, I want to take a moment to recognize the extraordinary achievements of our student-athletes, academic competitors, and student leaders.
Last Friday, West Springfield was proud to host the Patriot Pack, a collaborative summit where SGA students from seven of our eight Patriot District high schools gathered on our campus. Ten of our own SGA students met with their peers from across the district to share ideas and initiatives. This collaboration on common school-wide events and student experiences is vital to strengthening our school communities and ensuring every student has a voice in their high school journey.
For the first time in school history, our Men’s Wrestling team placed 3rd in the State. This milestone is a testament to the tireless work of our student athletes and the dedication of our coaching staff. Furthermore, I am incredibly proud to announce that Michael Santos and Elaina Primozic have both been crowned Individual State Wrestling Champions. Their discipline and resilience have earned them the highest honors in the Commonwealth.
Excellence continued this week as the Spartan Rifle Team secured 1st place in their Regional Competition, continuing their tradition of poise and precision. Additionally, our Science Olympiad Team showcased their brilliance by taking 1st place at the VT Regional Competition, proving that our students are among the brightest minds in the region.
I also want to give a huge shout-out to our Black Student Union Club and their sponsors for the outstanding Black History Month Assembly. It was a powerful, well-executed event that brought our community together and highlighted the incredible talent and leadership within our student body.
The momentum continues into the weekend as our Indoor Track student athletes travel to compete in the State Championships, and our DECA team departs for Virginia Beach to represent West Springfield at the State Leadership Conference. We wish these students the very best of luck.
Please join me in congratulating all these students on their hard-earned work and success. It truly is great to be a Spartan

National School Social Work Week
A big thanks to our Social Workers: Dianne Stansbery and David Blair for all they do for our students.
March 2-8 is National School Social Work Week. Social workers in FCPS help to prevent social, emotional, and behavioral factors from affecting a student's ability to perform at their best. Their primary goal is to remove barriers that prevent a student from fulfilling their academic potential. Social workers are assigned to every school and center in the school system. Most social workers serve one to two sites. Learn more about the role of social workers in FCPS.
