Congratulations to our Spelling Bee Winner Jameson Jones and Runner-Up Jordan Atlee! We are so proud of your hard work and outstanding performance!

Notes from the Administration

Dear Canterbury Woods Families,

We had another wonderful week at school! Last Friday’s Bingo Night was a huge success and such a fun event for our community. Thank you to everyone who helped plan, organize, and support the evening.

This week brought another surprise snow day, but we were happy to return and finally enjoy outdoor recess again. Students and staff appreciated the chance to get outside and enjoy the fresh air.

We also held our Spelling Bee this week, and our students did a fantastic job. We are proud of all the participants for their preparation, courage, and sportsmanship. Congratulations to Jameson Jones our winner and Jordan Atlee our runner up!

Also this week our teachers participated in collaborative planning days where they had the opportunity to visit one another’s classrooms. This type of professional learning is a valuable way for teachers to expand their instructional toolbox and learn new strategies that support student success.

After the snow last weekend we received a few emails regarding a down tree in the neighborhood. Fairfax County Park Authority asked we share the message below with the community:

The bridge on the asphalt trail in Willow Woods Park connecting the end of Rosedale Lane to the Canterbury Woods Elementary School campus was severely damaged by a fallen tree. Fairfax County Park Operations has cleared the tree and installed barricades to prevent access to the damaged bridge. The bridge will remain closed until further notice. Alternate pedestrian access from Rosedale Lane to Canterbury Woods Elementary School is along Ponderosa Drive and Nero Street sidewalks. Fairfax County Park Authority appreciates your patience as we work to replace the damaged trail bridge.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Leslie Malkowski, Kristi McGeehan, and Mindy Milliron

School Breakfast Week

Celebrating the Power of School Breakfast

Multiple studies show that school breakfast is important in supporting overall student health by improving students’ diets and combating food insecurity. Also, students who eat school breakfast consume more fruit and fiber than their peers.

This National School Breakfast Week, FCPS Food and Nutrition Services reminds families that they are dedicated to providing flavorful, healthy, sustainable, and student-focused meals. New menu items have been launched this year based on student feedback.

Would you like to know what’s for breakfast? View Nutrition Services’ printable menus.
