Field Trips & Cell Phones
As you prepare your child(ren) for upcoming field trips, please keep in mind that the FCPS cell phone and personal electronics policy applies not only during the school day in our building, but also while students are participating in field trips.
In accordance with FCPS policy, cell phones and cell phone accessories must be off and away for the duration of field trips, as field trips are considered part of the instructional day.
We appreciate your support in reviewing this expectation with your child(ren) before each trip so that students are clear and ready to focus on the learning experience.
For easy reference, you can review the full FCPS policy here: https://www.fcps.edu/cell-phone-policy
A Reminder from the Health Room
Please remember when reporting an absence for a child who is unwell, we kindly ask that you provide specific symptoms (such as fever, cough, nausea or vomiting) rather than general phrases like "under the weather" or "not feeling well." Having these details allows our health room to monitor local wellness trends and ensures our front office can code attendance correctly in accordance with school health protocols. Thank you for your cooperation in helping us keep the Oak View community safe and informed!
Around the World Heritage Night, March 26
Heritage Night will be held on March 26, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Heritage Night is more than just an event; it’s a celebration of the cultures and stories that define our community. As we prepare for this year’s free community gathering, we invite you to contribute your time or talents to help make it a success. Please visit our sign up form to see how you can support this Oak View tradition. Thank you for your continued partnership and support!
Pre-K and Early Head Start Programs
FCPS Pre-K and Early Head Start programs provide a high-quality early learning experience for qualifying children with economic and educational risk factors, ages 6 weeks to 4 years, living in Fairfax County.
- Pre-K prioritizes 4-year-old applicants but also accepts applications for children who will be 3 years old by September 30 of the same year.
- Early Head Start is located at three elementary schools — Clearview, Crestwood, and Dogwood — and accepts applications from pregnancy to 2 years old.
Families are encouraged to apply as soon as possible; space is limited and provided based on need, not on a first-come, first-served basis.
Applications are accepted online, by email, by mail, or in person at the program office at 7423 Camp Alger Avenue, Falls Church, Virginia 22042.
If you have a question about the application process or status, please call 703-208-7900 (English) or 703-208-7901 (Spanish).

Ramadan Observation and Meal Kits
If your student is observing Ramadan during school hours, please fill out this Ramadan Participation Questionnaire so we can coordinate on both a prayer schedule and a lunch alternative location for them, if needed.
From February 18 to March 19, students who are fasting during the day can take school meals home. These kits include one breakfast and one lunch to be eaten after the school day ends. Visit the Food and Nutrition webpage for forms, deadlines, and other information.
