We had a great time at our winter pep rally. We celebrated our winter sports and had some class competitions!
Good afternoon, Eagles,
It has been a full and exciting week here at Edison.
On Wednesday night, it was great to see both our girls and boys basketball teams compete in the quarterfinals. There is nothing like postseason energy in the gym. Congratulations to our boys team for advancing to the semifinals tonight at Robinson High School, where they will take on the Woodson Cavaliers at 6:00 p.m. If you are able, come out to support our team and Rock the Red. Our players have worked hard all season and they deserve a strong Edison crowd behind them.
Wednesday was also the FCPS Black History Month Celebration at Woodson High School. We were honored to see Hailey Rush perform at the second annual divisionwide event. Hailey performed a powerful dance routine to “A Change Is Gonna Come,” originally by Sam Cooke, for a packed audience. Her performance highlighted both her beautiful talent and the significance of Black history. We are proud to see our students represent Edison so well.
Yesterday’s winter pep rally brought great energy to the building. We cheered on our winter sports teams and enjoyed the always entertaining lip sync class competitions. Our students truly show up when it comes to creativity and performance. Thank you to our Leadership class for organizing the event, and to Mr. Dight and Mrs. Craft for the time and effort you put into making it a success.
Our orchestra and band students also held their pre-assessment concerts this week. The level of musicianship on display was impressive. We are fortunate to have such talented students and dedicated educators guiding them. Thank you to Mr. Jeerakul and Mr. Mitchell for preparing our students so well.
Today we hosted a Black History Month Lunch and Learn for students and staff. It was meaningful to see staff and members of our community sharing experiences, perspectives, and learning more about the many cultures represented at Edison. Thank you to Mrs. Green and Mrs. Rodriguez for organizing this important opportunity for connection and learning.
I hope everyone has a great weekend. If you are heading to Robinson tonight, I look forward to seeing you there.

We are excited to announce that our school is now using the new Raptor Visitor Management System (VMS). This upgrade is part of our school’s and FCPS’ ongoing commitment to enhancing school safety and streamlining the process for visitors at our school. The VMS ensures that no visitor is on the sex offender registry.
For most visitors, the user experience will be the same when you check-in at the front office.
But now there is also an app, which can make check-in’s even faster at school. Visitors who choose to download the RaptorSafe App and create a Raptor Passport can pre-verify their information before they get to school. The app will give you a QR code you can use when you check-in at school.
If you have questions or need assistance with the new system, please contact our front office. Thank you for your partnership in keeping our schools safe!

Photos from the TOK field trip to the National Gallery of Art for The Stars We Cannot See Exhibit (the largest collection of Aboriginal Art outside of Australia). Special thanks to Mr. Nelson for giving a bonus tour of the Western Gallery. Shout-outs to Ms. Oviatt, Mr. Neal, Mr. Nelson, Mr. Moore, and Ms. Devers for giving up their Sunday to guide students through this amazing experience.
Multiple studies show that school breakfasts are important in supporting overall student health by improving students’ diets and combating food insecurity. Students who eat school breakfast consume more fruit and fiber than their peers.
This National School Breakfast Week, FCPS Food and Nutrition Services reminds families that they are dedicated to providing flavorful, healthy, sustainable, and student-focused meals. New menu items have been launched this year based on student feedback.
Would you like to know what’s for breakfast? Nutrition Services has printable menus available.

Talking with teens about the facts of fentanyl is a conversation you can’t skip. Learning about fentanyl gives teens a better understanding of the risks and effects of the drug, and what they can do to keep themselves and their communities safe.
Share these important facts with your child:
- Even half a fentanyl-laced pill can be fatal. Just a few salt-sized grains of fentanyl are enough to cause an overdose.
- More than half of local street pills contain a deadly dose of fentanyl. As of 2023, seven in
10 counterfeit pills in the U.S. contain enough fentanyl to cause a fatal overdose.
- Fentanyl is usually taken accidentally. Many people have no idea they’ve taken it until they overdose because you can’t see, smell, or taste it in pills and powders.
- Overdose can happen in an instant. In as little as four minutes, the lack of oxygen can lead to brain damage and even death.

There’s knowing what to say, then there’s knowing how to say it – both are important. Make fentanyl talks with your teen unskippable. Learn how to start the conversation in a way they can’t ignore at fcps.edu/BecomeUnskippable.
