Hello, Scottie families!
We've had a great week at Bonnie Brae, capped off by our February SCA Spirit Day today – Sequins and Sweats! It has been a fun day of learning, filled with so many of our students and staff wearing Bonnie Brae colors of blue and white, decked out in their best sequins gear, or dressed down in sweats.
We were not able to hold our PTO assemblies last week due to the weather, but the PTO Read-a-Thon registration is off to a great start! Please see below for more information and updates on the Read-a-Thon fundraiser. Let's get reading, Scotties!!
As previously shared, we are looking forward to our This is Us! Celebration coming up on April 23. Be on the lookout for information in Tuesday Folders next week on how to participate and what to expect at this amazing community celebration. This is Us! Is for everyone, not just those sharing about their culture, and we hope you all can attend!
Have a wonderful weekend with your family and friends, Scotties!

Halfway Through Exploring Technology and Society in Language Arts
We are halfway through Benchmark Unit 5 in Language Arts! Across grade levels, students have explored why we use technology, how we take responsibility when making advances in technology, and where ideas for inventions come from.
Connect with your child’s learning at school with these fun questions and hands-on activities at home:
- Question: What’s the most interesting fact you learned from this unit so far? Why is it interesting to you?
- Activity: Ask your child to draw a picture of how they would improve a common piece of technology (cell phone, car, etc.).
At the end of the unit, your child will take their unit magazine home. The magazine includes an activity calendar with fun ways to help students build on what they’re learning at each grade level. You can also find information on how to support your child’s reading at home on the Benchmark Families website.

Celebrating the Power of School Breakfast
Multiple studies show that school breakfasts are important in supporting overall student health by improving students’ diets and combating food insecurity. Students who eat school breakfast consume more fruit and fiber than their peers.
This National School Breakfast Week, FCPS Food and Nutrition Services reminds families that they are dedicated to providing flavorful, healthy, sustainable, and student-focused meals. New menu items have been launched this year based on student feedback.
Would you like to know what’s for breakfast? Nutrition Services has printable menus available.
Pre-K and Early Head Start Programs
FCPS Pre-K and Early Head Start programs provide a high-quality early learning experience for qualifying children with economic and educational risk factors, ages 6 weeks to 4 years, living in Fairfax County.
- Pre-K prioritizes 4-year-old applicants but also accepts applications for children who will be 3 years old by September 30 of the same year.
- Early Head Start is located at three elementary schools — Clearview, Crestwood, and Dogwood — and accepts applications from pregnancy to 2 years old.
Families are encouraged to apply as soon as possible; space is limited and provided based on need, not on a first-come, first-served basis.
Applications are accepted online, by email, by mail, or in person at the program office at 7423 Camp Alger Avenue, Falls Church, Virginia 22042.
If you have a question about the application process or status, please call 703-208-7900 (English) or 703-208-7901 (Spanish).

Bonnie Brae PTO Read-a-thon Starts Monday!
Registration is open for the 2026 Bonnie Brae PTO Read-a-thon - have you registered your child? We've already raised $8,462 and 344 students have registered! This fundraising campaign encourages our students’ love of reading and raises funds to be used for school-wide purposes, such as: assemblies, field trips, transportation for field trips, technology updates, and classroom supplies (just to name a few). We have partnered up with 99 Pledges, which allows us to retain nearly 100% of the funds raised.
We need your help in making this event a school-wide success, as we want all of our student body to participate. Here are a few examples of ways your student can participate:
- read aloud to an adult or sibling
- read silently
- listen to an adult or older sibling read aloud
- listen to a story online
Students will be allowed to check out extra books from the library to use for this event and they can earn fun prizes.
A flyer with registration information was sent home with your student in the Tuesday folder from this week. Register at https://app.99pledges.com/fund/readathonbbes/addme
Register today! All students entered before Friday, 2/27 will be entered to win one of 10 priority registration slots for teacher-led clubs.
