I lost a 4th grade spelling bee because of the word February.

I knew how to spell it — or I thought I did. I just didn't realize there was an r hiding after the b. Feb-roo-ary. I had never once thought about it.

Which makes sense, because spelling had always come easily to me. I never studied for spelling tests. I already knew how to spell the words. The exception was the dreaded ie and ei list. That one always tripped me up.
