Student Phones and Smart Devices

Image of a cell phone with an exclamation in a red conversation bubble

FCPS’ cell phone policy helps students focus, learn, and engage. When students put their phones away, they have more face-to-face interactions with their peers and teachers and more opportunities to develop resilience and problem-solving skills. Please remind your child that:

  • Cell phones and personal devices (earbuds, headsets, other items connected to the internet) must be off and away for the entire school day (bell to bell).
  • Smart watches that serve a dual purpose may be worn, but the phone features (texting, Internet viewing, calls and games) are to be off when phone use is prohibited.

If you need to contact your child during the school day, please call our front office at 703-242-6100.

Beyond the school day, we ask for your partnership in navigating the digital world. If your child has a cell phone or access to a device, please actively monitor their chats and apps. We strongly discourage "grade-level" group chats involving large numbers of students, as these can quickly become overwhelming or exclusionary. Please also be mindful that students often use chat features within games and other websites. Being knowledgeable about what your child is accessing is the best way to ensure their online experiences remain safe and positive. Visit our cell phone policy webpage for more information and answers to frequently asked questions.

County Seeking Budget Input

About 70% of the FCPS budget comes from the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. They are currently reviewing the county’s 2027 Fiscal Year Advertised Budget and are considering possible adjustments before the final county budget is adopted in May. Provide the county with feedback on how you would like your tax dollars spent by completing this survey.

Community Conversations: Share Your Thoughts With Dr. Reid

Dr. Reid listens to the community

As a listening leader, connecting with community members across our school division is critical to Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid. Dr. Reid’s Community Conversations are opportunities for you to share your thoughts and ask questions. Events will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. (unless otherwise noted) on:

Child care and interpretation services will be provided. Events are open to all. Visit the superintendent’s engagement page for the most up-to-date information.

Our school Read-A-Thon begins on Monday March 2, 2026 and is sure to be a fun and exciting event.

We understand that your time is valuable. We also know that providing the best education for your child is important. That's why we are encouraging everyone to activate their student's Read-A-Thon account as soon as possible. The instructions are straightforward, making it quick and hassle-free, and it should take less than 5 minutes of your time.

Watch a short video to see how to sign up your reader.

This account will serve as a hub for recording and monitoring your child's progress as a Reader in the event, and for you to share their Read-A-Thon message with friends and family.

Use this link to activate your student's Reader account.

Thank you so much for your participation and support. Together, we can make this Read-A-Thon an amazing experience for our young readers! Last year the Read-A-Thon raised over $11,000 for our school!

Yearbook Snap!

Yearbook Snap

For the last couple of years, we have asked the community to upload photos to add to our Yearbook. We received LOTS of submissions! While we can’t use every photo in the yearbook, we would love to offer the opportunity for our families to submit photos again.  Our yearbook theme this year is “Our Shared Home”.

Please upload images to our Yearbook Snap. Access Code: flinthill25 In order to collect photos, we ask that they are either camera images or cell phone photos without the Live feature attached. If you upload photos and the ending is .HEIC instead of .JPG we are unable to use them in the yearbook.  We look forward to seeing everyone’s photo in the yearbook this year.

Remember to Pre-Order your Yearbook! You wouldn’t want to miss out.
