Our Horseshoes and Hoops competition is off to a flying start! Students have already earned over 500 horseshoes, triggering our first schoolwide reward. To celebrate our teamwork, Thursday, March 26, is Jersey/Team Shirt Day. Students are encouraged to wear a jersey or a shirt from their favorite sports team. Keep up the great work—our next big celebration happens when we hit the 1,000-horseshoe milestone!
Innovation is growing in our halls! Our hydroponics farm is ready for its very first harvest of romaine lettuce next week. Throughout this process, students have become mini-scientists—learning how to measure pH and mineral levels and troubleshooting whenever the system needed balancing. We can’t wait to taste the results; the lettuce will be served fresh in our school cafeteria!

April Statewide Election: No School for Students
There will be no school for students on Tuesday, April 21, for the Virginia statewide election. Student activities, athletic practices, and events may proceed as scheduled.
Fairfax County Public Schools will still exceed the required number of instructional hours for students, as set by the Virginia Department of Education.
Showcasing Excellence: Benchmark Family Information Session
Have you ever wondered what happens during your child's literacy block? This is a wonderful opportunity to see firsthand how our students are growing as readers and writers through the Benchmark curriculum. Join us for the rescheduled snow day session on March 23 from 12:15 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. for the following:

Learn & Connect: Our Reading Specialist, Kristina Reukema, will lead a presentation explaining the "why" and "how" behind the Science of Reading and the Benchmark program in the cafeteria.

Benchmark in Action: This is the exciting part! You will have the chance to visit classrooms in small groups. Along with our Admin team and Ms. Reukema, you will have the opportunity to see snapshots of daily instruction to see authentic learning as it happens.

Q&A Session: We will wrap up the morning with a dedicated time for questions to help deepen your understanding of our literacy goals and how we support your child.
To ensure a smooth and secure morning, please remember to bring your ID. All visitors are required to check in at the front office upon arrival. Please note that only individuals who have checked in through the office will be permitted to participate in the classroom visits.
Special Education Family Conference: Registration Open, Volunteers Needed
The 2026 Special Education Family Conference, Stronger Together: Connecting Families and Schools, will take place on Saturday, April 18, at Marshall High School. During this no-cost, in-person event, families will have the opportunity to hear a keynote address from internationally renowned educator and advocate, Dr. Shelley Moore, connect to resources and other families, and participate in afternoon sessions.
FCPS families are invited to register to attend this year’s conference. Childcare, accommodations, and language interpretation are available.
Families are also invited to register to serve as an event volunteer by Thursday, March 19. Volunteer hours will be awarded to student volunteers.

We Want Your Feedback! Principal Evaluation Parent/Guardian Questionnaire
On Monday, April 6, parents and guardians of Saratoga will receive an email with a link to the FCPS Principal Evaluation Parent/Guardian Feedback Form. This questionnaire is part of the Performance Evaluation Program and provides an opportunity to share anonymous feedback about our school’s leadership and environment.
Topics covered in the survey include:
✅ Instructional leadership
✅ School climate
✅ Management (human resources and organizational)
✅ Communication and community relations
✅ Culturally responsive and equitable leadership
✅ Professionalism
The questionnaire will be open April 6 - April 19 and will be collected online. When you receive the email from noreply@fcps.edu, please take a few minutes to complete it. Your input is valuable and helps shape the future of our school. Thank you for your time and feedback!
Educate Fairfax Student Bookmark Art Contest – “Today’s Reader, Tomorrow’s Leader”
Educate Fairfax, the 501(c)3 education foundation that partners with the community to support Fairfax County Public Schools students and educators, is launching a divisionwide Student Bookmark Art Contest during March. FCPS students in grades K–12 are invited to design a 2” x 7” bookmark celebrating the power of learning and creativity under the theme “Today’s Reader, Tomorrow’s Leader.”
Artwork must be original, flat (no glitter or pop-ups), and include the student’s name, grade, and school on the back. Entries will be judged on creativity, connection to the theme, and overall effort. Four winners (K–2, 3–6, middle, and high) will each receive a $25 gift card, and winning designs will be printed and shared in schools and the community. This initiative supports FCPS Goal 3 by promoting literacy and student engagement.
Submissions may be mailed to Educate Fairfax (8270 Willow Oaks Corporate Drive, Fairfax, VA 22031), emailed to info@educatefairfax.org, or give to a staff member to submit. By submitting, students confirm FCPS enrollment and grant permission for printing and promotion (first name and grade only; parent/guardian signature required for winners).

¡Nuestra competencia "Herraduras y Aros" ha tenido un comienzo espectacular! Los estudiantes ya han ganado más de 500 herraduras, lo que ha activado nuestra primera recompensa para toda la escuela. Para celebrar nuestro trabajo en equipo, el jueves 26 de marzo será el "Día de la Camiseta Deportiva". Animamos a los estudiantes a usar una camiseta o jersey de su equipo deportivo favorito. ¡Sigan con ese excelente trabajo! Nuestra próxima gran recompensa llegará cuando alcancemos el hito de las 1.000 herraduras.
¡La innovación está floreciendo en nuestros pasillos! Nuestra granja hidropónica está lista para su primera cosecha de lechuga romana la próxima semana. A lo largo de este proceso, los estudiantes se han convertido en pequeños científicos, aprendiendo a medir los niveles de pH y minerales, y resolviendo problemas cada vez que el sistema requería algún ajuste. ¡Estamos impacientes por probar los resultados! La lechuga se servirá fresca en nuestra cafetería escolar.

Elecciones estatales de abril: No habrá clases para los estudiantes
No habrá clases para los estudiantes el martes 21 de abril, con motivo de las elecciones estatales de Virginia. Las actividades estudiantiles, los entrenamientos deportivos y los eventos podrán llevarse a cabo según lo programado.
Las Escuelas Públicas del Condado de Fairfax seguirán superando el número de horas lectivas requeridas para los estudiantes, tal como lo establece el Departamento de Educación de Virginia.

Benchmark en acción: ¡Esta es la parte más interesante! Tendrán la oportunidad de visitar las aulas en pequeños grupos. Junto con nuestro equipo administrativo y la Sra. Reukema, podrán observar ejemplos de la instrucción diaria y presenciar el aprendizaje auténtico en acción.
Sesión de preguntas y respuestas: Concluiremos la mañana con un espacio dedicado a preguntas para profundizar su comprensión de nuestros objetivos de alfabetización y cómo apoyamos a su hijo/a.
Para garantizar una mañana organizada y segura, recuerde traer su identificación. Todos los visitantes deben registrarse en la oficina principal al llegar. Tenga en cuenta que solo las personas que se hayan registrado en la oficina podrán participar en las visitas a las aulas.
Conferencia Familiar de Educación Especial: Inscripciones Abiertas, se Necesitan Voluntarios
La Conferencia Familiar de Educación Especial 2026, Juntos Somos más Fuertes: Conectando a Familias y Escuelas, se llevará a cabo el sábado 18 de abril, en la Escuela Secundaria Marshall. Este es un evento gratuito, en persona, durante el cual las familias tendrán la oportunidad de escuchar la presentación de la maestra y activista, internacionalmente reconocida, Dra. Shelley Moore, podrán encontrar recursos útiles y participar en sesiones interesantes por la tarde.
Las familias de FCPS están invitadas a inscribirse y asistir a la conferencia de este año. Estarán disponibles los servicios de Cuidado de Niños y de interpretación en otros idiomas, habrá comodidades para personas con discapacidades.
Las familias también están invitadas a registrarse para servir como voluntarios del evento antes del jueves 19 de marzo. Se otorgarán horas de voluntariado a los estudiantes que participen como voluntarios.

¡Queremos conocer su opinión! Cuestionario para padres y tutores sobre la evaluación del director
El lunes 6 de abril, los padres y tutores de Saratoga recibirán un correo electrónico con un enlace al Formulario de comentarios de padres y tutores para la evaluación del director de las FCPS. Este cuestionario forma parte del Programa de Evaluación del Desempeño y ofrece la oportunidad de compartir comentarios anónimos sobre el liderazgo y el entorno de nuestra escuela.
Los temas que abarca la encuesta incluyen:

Concurso de Arte para Marcapáginas de Estudiantes de Educate Fairfax – “El lector de hoy, el líder del mañana”
Educate Fairfax, la fundación educativa 501(c)3 que colabora con la comunidad para apoyar a los estudiantes y educadores de las Escuelas Públicas del Condado de Fairfax (FCPS), lanza durante el mes de marzo un Concurso de Arte para Marcapáginas de Estudiantes a nivel de todo el distrito escolar. Se invita a los estudiantes de FCPS de los grados K–12 a diseñar un marcapáginas de 2 x 7 pulgadas que celebre el poder del aprendizaje y la creatividad bajo el lema “El lector de hoy, el líder del mañana”.
Las obras de arte deben ser originales, planas (sin purpurina ni elementos tridimensionales) e incluir el nombre del estudiante, su grado y su escuela en el reverso. Las propuestas serán evaluadas en función de su creatividad, su conexión con el tema y el esfuerzo general demostrado. Cuatro ganadores (uno por cada categoría: K–2, 3–6, escuela media y escuela secundaria) recibirán cada uno una tarjeta de regalo de $25, y los diseños ganadores serán impresos y distribuidos en las escuelas y en la comunidad. Esta iniciativa respalda el Objetivo 3 de las FCPS al fomentar la alfabetización y la participación estudiantil.
Las propuestas pueden enviarse por correo postal a Educate Fairfax (8270 Willow Oaks Corporate Drive, Fairfax, VA 22031), por correo electrónico a info@educatefairfax.org, o entregarse a un miembro del personal para su presentación. Al enviar su propuesta, los estudiantes confirman su inscripción en las FCPS y otorgan permiso para la impresión y promoción de su obra (se publicarán únicamente el nombre de pila y el grado; se requiere la firma de un padre o tutor para los ganadores).
