The Export-Import Bank later signaled interest in $1.4 billion in financing for a graphite processing facility connected to the development.

And total federal support tied to the project could reach $2.1 billion.

Graphite may not attract the same attention as gold or lithium.

But if the United States is serious about building domestic supply chains, stories like this may become increasingly difficult to ignore.
