We are sharing with you the Advocacy edition of INSIGHT,
bringing you the latest updates and developments from IAPB’s Advocacy
team.
However, progress does not happen in a vacuum. The escalating
conflict in the Middle East weighs heavily on us. Since February 28,
the WHO has verified 18 attacks on healthcare.These disruptions cost
lives; they strip away access to healthcare, including vision
care.
As a global health organisation, we express our support for
healthcare workers, the eye care workforce, plus our members working
across the Middle East.

The first‑ever Global Summit for Eye Health will take place on
2 November 2026 in St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, where heads of
government, ministers, business leaders, and civil society will come
together to accelerate action on eye health at the highest level.
The Summit — hosted by the Government of Antigua and Barbuda in
technical collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and
supported by IAPB — aims to drive political will, unlock sustainable
financing, and strengthen national commitments to deliver quality eye
care for all.
Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Edinburgh officially launched the
Summit at a reception at St James’s Palace, underscoring the urgent
need for global leadership to translate commitments on vision into
concrete action that improves lives and economies worldwide.
