Vadim Ghirda tells us why he chose this photo
A key part of my mission as a photographer at the AP is to offer a view into the lives of those who receive little or no attention, including people labeled as “minorities”—religious, ethnic, people with disabilities, or those with a sexual orientation different from the “majority.” While Islam is a minority religion in Romania, I cover Muslim holidays such as Eid al-Fitr each year to help ensure this community is included in AP’s global coverage. You can help us capture images like these. Every day, our photographers are at work around the world. AP journalists are often the first on the scene. Sometimes they are the only ones on the story. Being there in so many places is expensive. AP is a not-for-profit organization with no corporate parent, no shareholders and no government influence. Support independent reporting. Donate today.
