Today marks the publication of THE INFINITY MACHINE, my best and best-timed book. By some combination of luck and foresight, I negotiated deep access to Demis Hassabis and DeepMind in November 2022, right before the launch of ChatGPT. I then proceeded to embed in the DeepMind culture while the company merged with Google Brain and battled through the innovator's dilemma to catch up with Sam Altman and OpenAI. Three and a bit years later, the result is a portrait of Hassabis, the Robert Oppenheimer of our age. In all my travels, I have never met someone so messianic, brilliant, and frighteningly consequential.
