If you’ve been following President Donald Trump’s rhetoric around the US and Israeli war on Iran, you wouldn’t be alone in thinking that it is chaotic to the point of nonsensical. In the early hours of Sunday morning, Trump announced that, under his direction, the US military rescued the second American pilot who was shot down in southern Iran on Friday.
Later Sunday morning, he celebrated Easter by posting an expletive-laden message on Truth Social, stating future plans for war crimes in Iran: “Open the Fuckin’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah.”
Then today—at the White House Easter Egg Roll, with children present—he again threatened to bomb Iranian civilian infrastructure and later told reporters that Iranians had asked the US to keep bombing them as the only path to their freedom.
All of this is bizarre, but the threats are horrifying. The deadline to agree on a deal with Iran is tomorrow night. Yes, Trump has extended the deadline in the past, but he is running out of options as oil prices continue to rise.
The war needs to stop now.
