Calender Reminder

Friday, April 10, is a school planning day. There will be no school for students. See the complete school year calendar.

Paraprofessional Appreciation Day

Paraprofessional Appreciation Day

Wednesday, April 1st was Paraprofessional Appreciation Day. Since our paraprofessionals were enjoying Spring Break on their special day, we celebrated this week by sharing our thanks and some sweet breakfast treats.

We are so grateful for the care and support they give each and every day. They truly are the heart of our classrooms, helping our students learn, grow, and succeed.

Their dedication to their work and to our students makes a meaningful difference. Through their patience, creativity, and positive energy, they create a warm and supportive environment where students feel valued and able to do their best.

If you haven’t already, we invite you to take a moment to check out our recent Facebook appreciation post to see our amazing paraprofessionals in action.

To all of our paraprofessionals—thank you for everything you do. We appreciate you!

National Assistant Principals Week - April 6-10

Emily Kaltenmark - Assistant Principal

This week, April 6–10, we are proud to celebrate Assistant Principal Appreciation Week and recognize the incredible work of our Assistant Principal, Emily Kaltenmark.

Emily’s hard work and dedication do not go unnoticed. She takes on some of the toughest parts of the job with care and strength, always keeping our students and staff at the center of her decisions. Emily helps create a positive school environment. She brings a sense of fun, support, and balance to what can often be a very busy and challenging workplace. She ensures that our school is a place where staff feel valued and students feel safe and supported.

We are so thankful for everything Emily does each day. Please join us in celebrating and showing appreciation for her during this special week.

Month of the Military Child

Month of Military Child

April is the Month of the Military Child! Every year we take the opportunity to recognize military-connected youth for their service and contribution to our community. Fairfax County Public Schools is proud to have over 14,000 military-connected youth as a part of our student body. We appreciate the varied life experiences they bring to our school community, and recognize their strength and resilience.

Purple Up! Day

To show our support for all our military-connected families, we are inviting all Fairfax County students, families, school employees, and community members to “Purple Up!” on April 15  for military children. Why purple? Purple symbolizes all branches of the military as a combination of Army green, Marine Corps red, and Coast Guard, Navy, Air Force and Space Force blue.

School Library Month

Librarian

We would like to take a moment to recognize and thank our wonderful librarian, Monisha Blair.

Ms. Blair is always there to support our students and their unique literacy needs. She brings care, energy, and creativity to everything she does. Whether she is helping a student find the right book, creating engaging activities, or working closely with staff, she makes the library a welcoming and supportive space for all.

In FCPS libraries, students build important skills, grow their knowledge, and discover new interests. Monisha helps make this possible every day. She creates a space where students feel a sense of belonging, find inspiration, and are encouraged to explore and learn in ways that work best for them.

We are grateful for all that Ms. Blair does to support our students and our school community.

Autism Acceptance Month

Autism Acceptance Month

April is Autism Acceptance Month. One in 31 children is diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder in the United States, according to the CDC. Our schools and staff play a vital role in creating and ensuring inclusive environments that accommodate and affirm autistic students.

Mandated Guardianship Training

In an effort to support guardians with better understanding their roles, Virginia law changed to require all guardians to take a one time, hour long, online training. If you’re a legal guardian, make sure you complete this training, save your certificate of completion, and submit information about this on your annual guardianship report.  Remember we always have information on guardianship and alternatives at thearcofnova.org/sdm.
