Welcome back to The Weekender, where you’ll find a batch of the week’s top stories about culture and the way we live today.
When we moved into our house, I made a list of projects to tackle, room by room. Now, eight years later, I know that list will never be completed — there will always be something else to fix or decorate or clean out. Looking at photos of an outrageously colorful home in our Real Estate section this week inspired me to consider this predicament differently. The home’s owner, Richard Hartledge, has been adding personality to it for more than 15 years. He’s a design professional with a vision that includes an electric green stairwell, and I don’t have that kind of eye. But the idea that a home is meant to be enhanced and filled with joy over time is a lot less overwhelming than a never-ending to-do list. Have a look at what he’s created below.
Also in this edition, find out what it’s like to fly in “ultra-luxury” and meet the 82-year-old jump rope queen of Beverly Hills. Before that, how about some of the best scrambled eggs you’ve ever had? I’ll see you next weekend(er).
