Here’s a simple hack for keeping clutter at bay: if a task will take you less than a minute, do it immediately. Hang up your jacket when you walk in the door, toss junk mail before you put it down, put a plate in the dishwasher. With the one-minute rule, you don’t have to make a decision about whether to do it now or later. You just do it—and get rid of the scum of clutter on the surface of life.
2
Start a book club.
It’s such a happiness booster, and you just need a few other participants to get started.
3
Watch clouds.
As you enjoy the spring weather, look around for faces—in clouds, on tree trunks, on the front of cars, in the patterns on walls, and of course, electrical outlets. “Face pareidolia” is our tendency to see faces around us.
4
Try a heated mattress pad.
If warmer spring weather hasn’t reached you yet, and you’re suffering from the cold, try a heated mattress pad to stay warm at night.
5
Attend a local event.
Check local blogs, news sites, or community calendars to find out what’s happening around town. Readings at the library, high school plays, or community concerts can be a lot of fun (and are typically free or low-cost to attend).
