WHAT I'M WRITING ABOUT
|
|
When the Mission Is Set, There’s No Negotiation
Most people don’t struggle with starting. They struggle with staying locked in once the initial energy fades and the distractions begin to pull at their attention.
It’s easy to commit when the path is clear and the motivation is high. It’s much harder when the noise increases, when competing priorities show up, and when progress slows down. That’s where most people drift. Not because they lack capability, but because they lose focus on what actually matters.
Before I ever stepped into BUD/S, I was sitting in a Wall Street cubicle, following a path that made sense on paper but felt completely misaligned. That moment forced a decision. Not a vague idea of change, but a specific, non-negotiable mission. Earn the SEAL Trident. No fallback. No soft alternative.
Once that decision was made, everything else aligned behind it.
That's what determination really is.
It’s not intensity. It’s not grinding endlessly. It’s clarity held under pressure. It’s the ability to fix your aim on a target and refuse to be pulled off course, no matter what shows up.
Most people don’t fail because they can’t work hard. They fail because they allow the mission to blur. They start negotiating. They adjust the target to fit their comfort.
But when the mission is clear and the decision is made in advance, there’s no negotiation left. Only execution.
Hooyah!

The Mark Divine Show
Sheepdog Strong: How Leaders Stay Locked on the Mission
Episode #559
Leaders who stay effective in complex, fast-moving environments are not the ones doing the most. They are the ones who stay focused on what matters most. In a world filled with noise, distraction, and competing demands, determination becomes the differentiator. It’s what keeps your actions aligned with your objective when everything around you is trying to pull you off course.

Podcast Highlights
In this episode, I break down how determination sharpens your focus, eliminates internal negotiation, and allows you to execute with clarity even under pressure.
You’ll learn:
- The critical difference between persistence and determination
- Why vague goals lead to drift and lost momentum
- How to fix your target with precision so it doesn’t bend under pressure
- The role of visualization in reinforcing conviction and direction
- How pre-committing removes hesitation when resistance shows up
- Why focus is a trainable skill and the currency of determination
- How the “no option” drill rewires your response to discomfort
- What it means to lead with clarity in a VUCA environment
When pressure rises, you don’t rise to the occasion—you fall to your level of training.
Train it.

PRACTICE OR HABIT TO TRY
|
|
Choose one specific target for the week. Not a category. Not a theme. One clear outcome.
Write it in one sentence.
Each day, take one action that moves you directly toward it.
Before starting your hardest task, decide in advance that you will complete it.
When resistance shows up, remind yourself:
The decision has already been made.
At the end of the week, review:
Did I stay on target?
Where did I drift?
Where did I hold the line?
Clarity builds focus.
Focus builds determination.
Reflection:
Where have you been negotiating with yourself instead of committing?
What would change if the decision was already made?
The standard you accept under pressure becomes the standard you live by.

TRAINING TOOL
|
|
The Iron Never Lies
Courage is built through reps.
Not just mental reps. Physical ones too.
The iron has a way of revealing the truth. It doesn’t care about your excuses, your mood, or the story in your head. You either lift it—or you don’t.
That’s why training tools matter. They create friction. They force presence. They demand effort.
Recently, Bullit USA partnered with Bruteforce Training to release the remaining Premier Athlete Sandbag Kits from Bruteforce’s final inventory.

For years, these sandbags were trusted by serious athletes training for real-world strength—grip, stability, endurance, and mental toughness.
This is the final run.
Once the remaining units are gone, there will be no restock.
If you’re looking for a simple, brutally effective training tool to add to your routine, this is one worth considering.
Train hard. Train honestly.
