Many EU member countries, including the power-duo of France and Germany, are in no hurry to let Ukraine join the bloc. They talk about strict standards on the rule of law, corruption and other fundamental principles. And the country is still at war. These are reasonable worries, writes our Telegram columnist. Yesterday’s announcement that the United Arab Emirates will leave OPEC, an oil-producing cartel, is perhaps not very surprising. The UAE has long flouted OPEC’s production rules and flirted with quitting. OPEC will survive, albeit with less influence in oil markets.
