Willard-Sherwood Health and Community Center Update

Health and Community Center Moves Forward

At its April 28 meeting, the Fairfax City Council adopted a resolution authorizing the Willard-Sherwood Health and Community Center project to proceed to construction. Watch the discussion on the city website.

The total project cost is $127,158,738. The city’s portion is $53,789,554, which is $2,210,446 below the budgeted amount in the adopted Capital Improvement Program. The city’s partner in this project, Fairfax County, plans to award the construction contract to The Christman Company.

The optional renovation and addition to the performing arts space at the existing Stacy C. Sherwood Community Center, which city staff recommended against, will not proceed at this time. This work has not been budgeted for in the city’s Capital Improvement Program.

Construction of the new center is expected to begin this summer and continue through 2029. More details will be shared as they become available.
