May is just around the corner and we are starting the month with a full calendar. Our Mother’s Day Gift Shop and Teacher & Staff Appreciation events are just two weeks away, and we’re excited to make them special for our students and staff.
The Mother’s Day Gift Shop is always a highlight for our students. They truly enjoy the opportunity to pick a jewelry piece and bring home a meaningful gift for someone special in their lives. It’s a memorable experience for them each year. Another memorable event is our Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week and we are looking for volunteers and food donations to help make this a special time for our amazing teachers and staff. This is a wonderful opportunity to show just how much we appreciate everything they do for our students each day. Earlier this year, Fairfax County proposed cutting $3.9M in funding for the Middle School After-School Program (MSASP) and VIP Summer Camps, putting 27 programs and over 27,000 students at risk. Thanks to strong community advocacy, funding was restored for this school year—but the future remains uncertain.
Proposed changes for 2026–27 would remove dedicated county funding and introduce student fees, creating potential inequities, primarily impacting our students in Title I schools. These changes place the entire financial responsibility for the middle school after-school and summer programs on the FC School Board.
If you live or work in Fairfax County, please consider contacting your School Board and Board of Supervisors representatives to urge full funding for these vital programs. They play a critical role in keeping our students engaged, supported, and thriving.

Bailey's PTA is also supporting out teachers and staff with breakfast and lunch during Teacher and Staff Appreciation week. We are looking for food and monetary donations, as well as volunteers to help us set up and clean up on both days. We are so grateful for everyone at Bailey's Primary and Upper and this is a small token of appreciation for all that they do. We’re excited to partner with D.C. United for our Fundraiser Night on Saturday, May 16th at 7:30 PM! For every ticket purchased, $3 will be donated back to our school, making this a fun and easy way to support both our community and D.C. United.
Show your school spirit by wearing orange and blue, and come cheer D.C. United on to victory!
If you need assistance purchasing tickets, please reach out to our Liaisons—they’ll be happy to help. If you plan to drive, parking is available in nearby garages for an additional fee. You can also take the Metro to the Navy Yard stop, which is just a short walk to Audi Field.

Paradigm FC is a nonprofit youth soccer academy that offers travel soccer at NO COST. Each year, 24 U8 players are selected through open tryouts for our PFC incubator program. Following a year of technical training, 12 players adance to the Paradigm U9 travel team. All expenses, incuding unifrims and coaching is fully covered.
