Hey, movie fans!
Are you grabbing your coat, your bag and your cerulean sweater and heading to “The Devil Wears Prada 2” this weekend?
We’ve had our own little fashion week of coverage of the movie. Our reporter Melena Ryzik sat down with the cast and the director to discuss the legacy of the first film and the chemistry in the second one. Watch the video to get more juicy details.
And you probably have plenty of reasons to love the first movie, but so do we. We lay them out here. Plus, our chief film critic, Manohla Dargis, weighs in on the sequel, writing that it is “a sleek diversion with brittle and sharp laughs, truckloads of couture threads and lashings of light drama.”
In non-“Prada” movie news, there’s a new children’s movie based on George Orwell’s “Animal Farm” that includes voice work by Seth Rogen and Laverne Cox, among others. But you might have trouble finding much Orwellian heft in this adaptation, directed by Andy Serkis. “It’s drowning in ideological confusion,” the movie critic Alissa Wilkinson writes in her review, “which wouldn’t be such a big deal — one rarely asks children’s cartoons featuring talking pigs to be wellsprings of thoughtful political theorizing — except that this is ‘Animal Farm.’”
If you’re looking for something that may deliver more on scary dystopia, try the haunted-inn horror movie “Hokum,” with Adam Scott. It’s not all gloom and doom, though. The critic Jeannette Catsoulis writes that the writer-director Damian McCarthy’s “sneaky script seems especially suited to Scott’s slightly stunned acting style and a line delivery that leans naturally toward snark.”
Whatever you decide to see, enjoy the movies!
